Villa Magnani e le Industrie Poretti
“L’estate sta finendo” cantavano i Righeira nel lontano 1985; sono giorni ormai che me la canticchio mentalmente perché, anche quest’anno, la malinconia della fine dell’estate sta prendendo il sopravvento, mentre siamo tutti obbligati ad abbandonare le felici vacanze per tornare a studio e lavoro. È allora fondamentale trovare qualche valido diversivo per rallegrare l’ormai raro tempo libero: quel che propongo questo mese è di visitare Villa Magnani a Induno Olona e le annesse Industrie Poretti; fondato da Angelo Poretti, poi rilevato dalla famiglia Bassetti e, infine, acquistato dal gruppo danese Carlsberg, questo complesso centenario è senza dubbio tra gli indimenticabili vanti artistici ed industriali della Provincia di Varese. Nel 1877 Angelo Poretti, di ritorno da un viaggio in Cecoslovacchia, decise di produrre per la prima volta in Italia (grazie ai segreti imparati da un mastro birraio di Praga) la bevanda alcolica che fino ad allora era sempre stata esclusivamente importata; la scelta del luogo ricadde sull’area di Induno Olona, dove poté sfruttare la purissima Fontana degli Ammalati come sorgente di acqua naturale e il ghiaccio proveniente dai laghi di Ganna e Ghirla. Il complesso Poretti, contraddistinto dalle due tonalità giallo e grigio perla, rappresenta un ottimo punto d’incontro, così come raramente accade, tra funzionalità ed estetica: con decorazioni esterne in ferro battuto, fu costruito dagli architetti Bihl di Stoccarda e ristrutturato più volte perché fosse sempre più all’avanguardia. I diversi stili da cui è composto (liberty italiano, architettura egiziana, classicismo e naturalismo) ne arricchiscono le fatture, proponendo più elementi decorativi, ripresi anche dalla vicina Villa Magnani, costruita all’interno della proprietà del birrificio su progetto dell’architetto Stacchini nel 1903: un capolavoro dell’archeologia industriale da rimirare degustando ottima birra, cosicché, anche se l’estate sta finendo, possiamo almeno bere per dimenticare!

“L’estate sta finendo” Righeira sang in way back 1985; it’s been days since I’ve been singing it to mentally because, again this year, the end of summer is taking over, while we are all forced to leave the happy vacations behind and return to study and work. Therefore, it is essential to find some valid diversion to brighten up the now rare leisure time; what I suggest this month is to visit Villa Magnani in Induno Olona and the outbuilding Poretti Industries. Founded by Angelo Poretti, then taken over by the Bassetti family, and in the end bought by the Danish group Carlsberg, this centenary complex is undoubtedly among the unforgettable artistic and industrial prides of the area of Varese. In 1877 Angelo Poretti, returning from a trip to Czechoslovakia, decided to produce for the first time in Italy (thanks to the secrets learnt by a master brewer in Prague) the alcoholic drink that until then had always been exclusively imported. The choice of the place fell on the area of Induno Olona, where he was able to exploit the natural resources: the pure Fontana degli Ammalati as a source of natural water, and ice from the lakes of Ganna and Ghirla. The Poretti complex, characterized by the two shades of yellow and pearl grey, represents an excellent meeting point, as rarely happens, between functionality and aesthetics. With wrought-iron exterior decorations, it was built by the Bihl architects from Stuttgart and renovated several times in order to be more and more avant-garde. The different styles from which is composed (Italian art, Egyptian architecture, classicism, and naturalism) enrich its invoices, proposing more decorative elements, also taken from the near Villa Magnani, built within the brewery’s property on design by the architect Stacchini in 1903. It’s a masterpiece of industrial archaeology to admire while tasting excellent beer, so that, even if the summer is ending, we can at least drink to forget!
